Self Love for Cultural Chaos

Unspeakable violence on the personal, familial, community and global level requires stillness and acknowledgement due to the rage, anger, shock, grief, depression, fear, disappointment, helplessness and insecurity that comes with it for all of those experiencing it, watching it and living on beyond the public unsupported trauma of others. This transmission was inspired by all of the unjust violence against black and brown bodies, ...since forever. The most recent, an execution in Chicago aired on video for the world to see, as if we were a deciding jury required to watch it, triggering a level of rage dangerous for all involved. These times require support different from the ways in which we learned to 'get by' previously. Recent triggers played out on the news and on social media, practically magnified that there has been no true healing involved while we waited for justice. It was then I realized we had to generate our own. Below are some things I have learned to do to sow into my mental health, especially right now. If your rage and anger comes from additional agitation than what this post was inspired by, this is likely still applicable medicine. Check it out:

UNPLUG

  • Log off of social media and silence notifications--this isn't a game for you to engage in a play-by-play

  • Turn the TV off along with any other forms of reporting and spinning the topic--anything missed will STILL be available somewhere later on if you just have to see it

  • Conserve your energy--remove yourself from debates, taking sides and proving you're right

  • Pass on playing/watching any videos depicting violence or listening, engaging in anything violent on any level (sound, sight, energy)

  • Turn off your inner investigator (mind based) and awaken to your ability to know (soul based)


ACCEPT

  • KNOW that THIS is the world we currently live in. Period. Look for examples and evidence of it, if you must.

  • Acknowledge changes that need to be made in your personal schedule, habits, friends, job, organizations, buying power, influences, content that support the structures that allow nonsense to occur and stand-by numb, while its happening

  • Actively create new and find existing structures that are on point with your mission for personal, commUNITY, etc. and research those who are already doing the work

  • Only call and answer calls of loved ones for support, affirmation and mental health check-ins especially for those who may be most deeply impacted. Connect with them.

  • Acknowledge ALL of your emotions, name them and allow urself to experience being angry, sad, feisty, disappointed, etc (use the image wheel below to help you name yours)

  • Don't hold back your truth--this is a critical point for the necessity and diversity it holds for you and inevitably others. No passivity.

  • Take your hurt deeper into love--first to remind and nourish yourself, second for the deep empathy and compassion that the world is void of.



RELEASE & EMPOWER

  • Breathe deeply, constantly, like a practice. Direct the breath to nourish your inner woes.

  • Cry and let it flow when its felt.

  • Call a healer and get some energy work done to heal any traumas in your body or balance beyond the blockages that become present during these times.

  • Practice Soul Healing Yoga™ . Get the trauma out of your body before it sets up a home. Your regular practice may also work here if its rooted in mind.body.soul. connection and activation.

  • Dance to primal rhythms and move in trance with the ancestors--drums, bass, combination of indigenous instruments.

  • Turn your eating into an art form--listen to the comfort your body is seeking and feed it the healthiest, highest vibration, detoxifying version, or take a short guided fast.

  • Set up that altar and communicate, visualize, chant, transmute...burn.

  • Observe and listen (on multiple planes) more than you speak.

  • Take your inquiry and curiosity into areas where you can connect dots and make new discoveries--history, law, psychology, self healing, etc.

  • Time travel or pack your bags and get away for a bit--change of scenery helps things move

  • Get out into nature to DO SOMETHING--tap into your cosmic consciousness

  • Meditate for visions and answers

  • Create forums, gatherings and organizations to build with the like-minded and amplify collective power

  • Plan, write, illustrate, storytell, create

  • Listen to upbeat high vibratory music on repeat

  • Use aromatherapy to change space and alter mood

  • Cleanse yourself and your space as if you are preparing for company

  • Remember the fallen and the ancestors and say their names

  • Employ all forms of magic...if you don't have enough, add some more

  • Take up space--everythings big, there is no small. You are a giant with possibilities in a limitless Universe. Go there!

  • Find moments to laugh and cultivate a sense of joy and peace for balance

  • Affirm and express tremendous gratitude that you are still here and are part of the collective intelligence and that your presence has power!

  • Continue the work you are already doing because it matters!

  • Take the time to #HEALYOURSOUL
